This summer has seen some fantastic local produce on offer in our Spar store.  My favourites were the Forde Abbey strawberries.  These were how I remember strawberries tasting when I was a child; many of our customers obviously agreed with me as we sold out very quickly despite getting two deliveries per week. These were joined by juicy, very dark red cherries from Whitehouse Farm just outside Chard, which were the best I have ever eaten grown in the UK.  As we move into the new season we will have different apples available from Charlton Farm near Taunton; look out for some unusual varieties to try.  Another recent addition has been the new spirits from Lyme Bay Winery.  There are two fantastic gins plus a rum; these are amazing as gifts or maybe as a treat for yourself and are currently at special introductory prices.  I am a great believer in offering local produce wherever possible and will continue to ensure you can shop local in more ways than one.  Remember, our Spar store is open seven days a week until 8pm for all your needs.

I wanted to acknowledge the fantastic effort put in by so many people at the Musbury Scarecrow Festival in July.  There was a quite incredible level of work put in to create a remarkable event.  Our Spar staff joined in with two creations, ‘Lewis’ was ready for action dressed as a member of the workshop team and ‘Dolly’ welcomed people to the forecourt in Spar uniform.

You may not be aware that in our workshop we specialise in computerised four-wheel alignment.  If your car is suffering with uneven tyre wear, pulling or ‘wandering’ whilst driving, we have the know-how and the equipment to sort it out.  Starting at just £79.20, our wheel aligner takes a multitude of measurements around the car enabling us to diagnose problems and make the correct adjustments to maximise tyre life. If your car needs tyres, we can offer a fantastic range of brands to suit all budgets.  I cannot stress enough how important it is to maintain correct tyre pressures, from a safety and cost point of view.  Amongst other things, underinflated tyres cause accelerated wear and higher fuel consumption.  We have a calibrated tyre pressure gauge available on the forecourt free of charge, and if you are unable to check your own we are more than happy to help.
